Sunday, May 16, 2010 Flower Communion Presented by Maisie Wolszon Moderated by Ceile Hartleib
The Flower Communion service was created by Norbert Capek who founded the Unitarian Church in Czechoslovakia. This special service was introduced on June 4, 1923. It was brought to the US in 1940 and has spread to many of our congregations and has been adapted along the way.
People are asked to bring a flower of their choice from their gardens or from the field or roadside along the way. The flowers are placed in a vase and at the end of the service each person takes a flower that was brought by another person.
The significance is that no two flowers are alike as no two people are alike, yet each has a contribution to make. Together the different flowers form a beautiful bouquet.
Please remember to bring a flower to share as we end our year together.
