On line Service (Zoom only)

Speaker: Max Rashbrooke

Democracy needs an update — one that respects and engages citizens by involving them in everyday political decisions, says writer and researcher Max Rashbrooke. He outlines three global success stories that could help move democratic systems forward and protect society against the new challenges this century is already bringing.

Max Rashbrooke is a New Zealand-based but globally connected writer and researcher.

Currently the J. D. Stout Fellow at Victoria University of Wellington, he has written and edited numerous works, including Government for the Public Good: The Surprising Science of Large-Scale Collective Action and the best-selling work Inequality: A New Zealand Crisis. Although writing is at the heart of everything he does, he works across multiple media, collaborating with people like the award- winning cartoonist Toby Morris on works such as the Wealth-Inequality Tower and data visualization expert Keith Ng on the Inequality Calculator. Rashbrooke is also a senior associate of the Institute for Governance and Policy Studies, with work in outlets such as The Guardian and Prospect magazine, and appearances as a regular commentator in the New Zealand media.
