Second Harvest Heartland: Taking Action on Hunger and Food Insecurity in Minnesota

Alison Griffin, Director of Communications at Second Harvest Heartland will be encouraging us to take action as she presents her organization’s strategies and experience in dealing with hunger and food insecurity in Minnesota.  

In her role leading communications for Second Harvest Heartland, Alison ensures that hunger is a critical component of the COVID response and recovery conversation, and that the nuances of food insecurity, the complexities of the hunger-relief network, and the personal stories of partners and neighbors are showcased consistently and accurately.  

Alison brings to the food bank professional experiences at a global marketing agency, Minnesota’s state health insurance exchange, Planned Parenthood, Rise Inc., and a number of issue and candidate campaigns. She believes that personal and community connections matter most, and are central to helping us realize kindness and justice for all. 

A native of Woodstock, Illinois, Alison has called Minneapolis home for 11 years. She lives by Lake Nokomis with her partner and rescue dog.
