The Proposed 8th UU Principle

Mya Wade-Harper is a Black Biracial young adult woman. She is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lexington KY, where she helped the church adopt the 8th principle in December 2019. She has served on the MidAmerica region’s worship team, has been a part of GA Young Adults, Midwest Youth Leadership Staff, YA committees and youth ministry. Mya is also part of her state’s new UU justice network.

In this presentation, Mya will explain the journey of adopting the 8th principle which is a call for action around the dismantling of White Supremacy. The 8th principle affirms that we as UU’s pledge to devote ourselves to this call for justice. Adopting the 8th now sends a clear message that continued justice work is needed in our faith.
