Sanjit “Bunker” Roy is an Indian social activist and educator who founded the Barefoot College. He was selected as one of Time 100’s 100 most influential personalities in 2010 for his work in educating illiterate and semi-literate rural Indians.For nearly 50 years, The Barefoot College has designed new ways to nurture and support a journey to empowerment, one village at a time, one woman at a time.

Sanjit Roy was born in Burnpur, Bengal, now West Bengal, in 1945. He is an Indian social activist and educator. He attended St. Stephen’s College from 1962 to 1967 and has a master’s degree in English.
